The 2016 Learning & Development Poll
What are your priorities for 2016 and how will they compare with those of your peers? We asked Alan Bellinger of the Learning & Performance Institute (LPI) to find out for us.

There’s just one question to answer –

it will only take a couple of minutes.

So please CLICK HERE to take part.

How will you prioritise your time in 2016?  As you think through the challenges you’re likely to face in the coming year where will you focus your efforts and how does your prioritisation compare with that of your peers?

You can vote for as many, or as few, of the priorities we have listed as you like; and the poll will stay open until midnight on Christmas Eve. Then, in January, we’ll report back on how your peers prioritised this challenging list. In trials, some people responded saying “they’re all number one!” But you’re not allowed that luxury – the system will ensure that you limit it to one entry per column!

So, which of the following are your top priorities for 2016?

  1. Improving Stakeholder Engagement – how far are the key stakeholders across the business your concern or your boss’s concern?

  1. Developing Better Learner Engagement – we all like to see that learners are actively engaged in learning – but is that a high priority for you?

  1. Successful New System Roll Out – is there a new system roll-out on the horizon, and, if there is, is that really critical for you?

  1. Demonstrating the Value You Create – we would always like to better articulate the value-add we create; but, with so many other calls on our time, does this one make your high priority list?

5. nsuring Business Alignment – is demonstrating business alignment critical for you – or does that come as a natural consequence of your other priorities?

  1. Facilitating Effective Change Management – we often see ourselves as ‘agents of change’, and making change stick is a significant part of what we do – but is it among your highest priorities?

  1. Ensuring Capability Development – more and more people are dropping their conventional approach to performance management, and focusing on capability development instead; but where does it come on your priority list?

  1. Ensuring Effective Technology Adoption — the technology adoption maturity curve provides a basis for assessing the readiness of your organisation to accept new technology; but it may not be one of your focus areas in 2016.

  1. Meeting Certification Goals - certification is a great way to demonstrate capability, provided the skills being certified are those that your organisation actually needs.

  1. Being an Active Member of the L&D Community – it’s a truism that no-one is an island and that the opportunities are always there to learn from our peers, but with so many demands on our time is this an area that we can afford to de-prioritise?

  1. Embedding Learning & Work – there is an ever-increasing demand for us to embed learning into work; but is this one critical for you in 2016, or is it one that you can push out for next year’s poll?

  1. Extending Your Course Portfolio – “you can never have enough of a good thing”, but do you need to focus on your current portfolio rather than adding to it in 2016?

  1. Ensuring Effective Governance – there was a time when we only had to satisfy the boss; but, as organisations become less hierarchical and more of a wirearchy, then governance becomes an increasing issue for us to address.

  1. Managing Supplier Relationships – where would we be without our suppliers and business partners? And where would you put them in terms of your priorities for 2016?

So – have your say now, and I’ll be back in January to report on the major findings.
