What’s the Biggest Challenge Facing L&D Professionals?
A study by Lumesse Learning has found that the external factor most likely to make a change to learning and development strategy is finding out that the company you work for is about to merge or be acquired by another.
Other popular reasons include addressing inconsistencies in infrastructure and dealing with workplace stress.
48% of Young People Want Better Skills Training
The latest findings from LifeSkills has found that nearly half (48%) of young people don’t think they are being taught the skills employers are looking for.
2,200 people and their parents were surveyed to find which skills they believed are most important and will be required by businesses in the next 10 years. Plus, whether they were being taught them at the moment. The majority of respondents were in agreement that IT skills, problem solving and the ability to work with people of varying backgrounds were key.
If you agree, we can help with that. Check out our IT apprenticeships here.
Apprenticeships Are on the Rise!
Data has revealed a 28% increase in apprenticeship vacancies posted online in 2014 compared to 2013. These figures are also in addition to the thousands of opportunities offered offline each year. That’s great news for young people looking to get into the world of work!

Schools and Universities Are Doing a Better Job than Businesses
Research from Opinium has revealed figures from over 2,000 adults in UK employment which shows universities and schools are doing a better job than businesses in preparing people for the world of work.
60% stated that they needed skills training to perform their jobs but only 25% have received it. And 41% had not received any training at all from their employers. However, 80% felt prepared for work following university and 58% after school.
So, why not train staff? Well, findings saw that smaller companies are the worst offenders as they simply don’t have the same resources as national firms. But training doesn’t have to cost a fortune, get in contact with us here at Global Knowledge to discuss pricing possibilities.
Resourcing Issues Are Preventing Big Data Solutions
Research last year, sponsored by Talend, found resourcing issues were holding businesses back and preventing them from exploiting the possibilities of Big Data solutions. 39% of companies said a lack of skills and time were holding them back.
The popularity of Big Data has soared, yet the number of qualified technicians who understand this specific industry has not. This means people with these skills are highly sought after.
